A New Era Begins with Dee Why Hotel Grand Re-Opening

The much anticipated return of the iconic Dee Why Hotel after a 3 year closure has been one of the most exciting venue launches on the Northern Beaches this year.

Now open, the Dee Why Hotel has been reborn into a vibrant, eclectic, modern and welcoming bar that maintains the authenticity of the venues heritage and is a testimony to the Northern Beaches lifestyle. The hotel will focus on delivering a buzzy bar experience, delectable brasserie menu trading until late and a live music element with intimate performances by some of the finest musicians from Sydney’s live circuit & bars.

Located in the heart of Dee Why, the hotel has long been the social hub of the community since originally opening in the 1920’s. In 1977, The Bayfield Family took the reigns and transformed the hotel into a destination bar venue which has been at the forefront of Northern Beaches night culture for many generations.

History of the Dee Why Hotel

During the early 80s it was all about food & night-spots and ‘The Glider Room’ and ‘Jades Place’ came to prominence. Subsequently in the late 80s the hotel was again transformed to ‘The Venue’, being Sydney’s hottest band venue featuring the likes of INXS, Midnight Oil, Mental as Anything, Rat Cat, Chantoozies, Sunny Boys and more. During the 90s and naughties ‘The Jet Club’ became the market leader as the ‘place to be’ as Northern Beaches largest & most popular mega-nightclub.

To maintain the venues position at the social hub of the northern beaches, the Bayfield Family have engaged SJB interiors to transform the newly built Dee Why Hotel into an eclectic, modern and welcoming bar that maintains the heritage and authenticity of the venues history and past patronage. SJB have been the driving force behind many of Sydney’s amazing new bar culture venues including The Establishment, Hugos, Will & Tobys, The Dolphin & Woolwich Pier amongst many others.

A New Chapter - The Dee Why Hotel

The new Dee Why Hotel will embrace the original bar’s history in the new building, creating a new venue that feels familiar yet refreshingly different with a design ethos that makes patrons feel comfortable in a space that is not “overdesigned or pretentious” but instead mirrors the raw, casual and spontaneous.

Dee Why has long been considered a suburb of contradictions - luxury apartments sit alongside 1960’s units while surfers and men in suits sit together at cafe’s on the beachfront. The Dee Why Hotel has been a part of this unique local culture for over 75 years and Jonathan Richards from SJB Interiors has created a feel that reflects the many personalities of the Northern Beaches culture.

“We are very excited to be getting close to re-launching the new hotel. The hotel will be offering a vibrant and unique beaches’ destination venue where punters can come and enjoy a bite to eat and linger long into the night.”

“We have invested heavily into the redesign of the hotel and have employed SJB interiors to deliver a venue uniquely Dee Why and will truly reflect northern beaches culture,” commented Mark Bayfield.

The new design is not stiff and architectural but embraces the environment it reflects from the hotels’ music rock history to roaring surf, sunny days and tribal graphics. The bar has high concrete ceilings, plenty of warm timber, patterned fabrics, walls wallpapered in music posters from the original Dee Why Hotel with a massive island bar made of handmade deep green tiles. Partnered with black terrazzo floors, timber chairs, a suspended fireplace and black and white surfing photos, the new look Dee Why Hotel is just what Sydney has been longing for. A place that feels familiar, urban beachy, a little tribal, with flashes of colour and understated style.

Dee Why Hotel Cuisine

On the food side, the brasserie menu offers a diverse range of dining options for any occasion with some Mediterranean inspiration. For lunch, they have designed a pub brasserie menu that can be served quickly for those in a hurry (or slower if you prefer) and a delectable gourmet pizza range. For dinner you will be spoilt for choice as you can choose to select from a range of 'share' plates, indulge in a succulent main selection or enjoy our gourmet pizza menu that will be served until late.

The hotel forms part of the Dee Why Grand mixed-use redevelopment complex that includes 161 residential apartments, 6000sqm of commercial space and Dee Why Grand shopping centre featuring Coles, Harris Farm Markets, Bayfields Liquor Superstore and 30+ specialty stores.

The Bayfield Hotel Groups also owns Newport Arms Hotel, Caringbah Hotel, 3 Bayfields Liquor Superstores (Belrose, Caringbah and Dee Why), Newport Mirage Hotel, Terrace on Pittwater restaurant and the recently developed Belrose Hotel.
