Titled ‘Elements’, Reid’s latest exhibition revisits his ongoing project examining ‘the notion of paint as a language and the painted canvas as a live and reactive surface’.
‘Paintings force you to be honest and this in itself brings an extraordinary life to the work,’ says the Manly based artist.
Seemingly abstract on initial viewing, Reid’s bold, dramatic canvases address natural phenomena from tectonic fault lines and floods to a variety of natural terrain. They often hint at more elemental forces in nature, with whorls and lines brimming with dark energy and power.

‘John’s work is fuelled by years of study as a biochemist, and is as honest and direct as the natural world he studies,’ said Director of the Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Jackie Dunn.
John Reid has exhibited widely and is represented by Defiance Gallery, Sydney.
