Ben explains where the idea came from for Murdok in Manly. “I wanted to create the kind of store that would be at home in New York or London after living in both cities for a number of years from 99 – 2002. The crazy Rabbit headed and now horse headed mannequins have really caused a stir. I wanted to bring out my heritage and roots through the store,”  Ben explains.

The fit-out was very much a labour of love and the Manly community were and still are really supportive of the efforts that have been done with the boutique, we even had one guy coming in and offering to help us sand back our grandfather clock, an offer that we took him up on. The artwork walls from the New York artist Shepard Fairey and the Melbourne artists Paz & Beci Orpin paste ups with an added bit of Krink dripping for good measure have really caused the most positive feedback. We also used my background in the finer details such as the skateboard coping dressing racks and using Milkcrates as display props.”

“We have labels from both cities, as well as really cool Australian designers. Murdok stocks well established clothing labels like Stussy, RVCA, Zoo York, Analog, and Obey to mention a few, but they also stock Sydney & Melbourne designers like Something Else, PAM, My Pet Square & TMOD as well as their own in house clothing line ‘Murdok’, which will be launched within the next few months in-store. The brand will include a limited edition tee-shirt line, with prints from well-known contemporary artists as well as a full Men’s and Woman’s clothing line and accessories.

“We were also really lucky to be able to open accounts with pretty much all of our favourite labels as none of them existed in Manly. With this we are offering Manly something very unique and different from the norm. The store tends to scare some people which is awesome.” Ben explains.
