Creative Mums -Secrets
Would you like to know ‘The Secret’ to embracing life as an artist and a mum?
Many professional artists hang up the brushes once becoming a mum. Horror scenarios of pots of paint over the carpet and toddler Picasso paintings and shards of pottery on new furniture are not everyone’s cup of tea. Or maybe it’s just a plain lack of time, which forces mums to put their artistic careers on hold.
Painter Kathrin Longhurst is mum to 3 year old Maya and seven months pregnant with baby number two. Instead of being focused on getting the baby room ready, this artist mum is in full production to create work for her next Art Sydney show.
One time Miss Universe runner-up Karen Pini had a career in modelling and television and shows mums that at any stage in your life you can become an artist. The one-time beauty pageant entrant from Perth gave up a glamorous career to raise her three children. At this stage in her life this fascinating woman has found a way to combine two of her passions - sculpting art & ‘sculpting’ women. Today she uses her beauty skills to teach young women to feel confident and to become successful in their own right.

As a sculptor and a keen student Karen Pini is involved in growing Eramboo (Eramboo Reserve Trust) as a ‘studio-practice’ based artist environment for emerging artists on Pittwater, Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
