Organisers Suze and Karen have been together for 19 years, emigrating to Sydney from Manchester, U.K. seven years ago. They were married last year in Los Angeles.

According to Suze: “There are lots of gay people on the beaches who would love their own 'local' so they didn’t always have to go into the city for a night out - (and pay the cab fare home!).

Manly's such a great place for city people to come and visit too and in recent times, it seems to have changed for the better.

“With small bars like Hemmingways, Jarbar, Miss Marley’s and The Pony Club popping up, there’s now a real alternative thing happening here. People are starting to want to go out in Manly again and are looking for somewhere to go apart from ‘the big blokey pubs’.

“We feel there’s a demand for a gay night once a month in Manly and intend to 'big up' our suburb to the city folk, as we think they’re ready for a change of scenery too.”

Suze and Karen actually met in a gay bar in their native Manchester, where there’s a huge gay scene. “Up ‘til now there’s been nothing like KISS available for people living on the Northern Beaches,” says Karen. “We think locals are more accepting now and the time is right for a cool event like this to start up. We’re ready for it… and we know Manly is too.”
