2008 Restaurant & Catering Award – “Restaurant in a Pub”
It is with great pleasure that we share some very exciting news with you. Earlier this week The Terrace on Pittwater was given its highest honour when it was Awarded WINNER status for the 2008 Restaurant & Catering Awards.
The official and ‘hard fought’ category for the venue is “Restaurant in a pub” and whilst the restaurant has been a finalist for the last 4 years, this is the first time it has been officially recognised as a Winner.

Background - ‘The Terrace on Pittwater’
Since 1880, The Newport Arms Hotel has sat on the shores of Pittwater as a landmark for locals and travelers, offering one of the best water views in Sydney.
The hotel’s main restaurant has been in operation since 1937 when it was first opened as a fine dining room with first-class accommodation. In those days you needed to be a bona-fide traveler to drink at any hotel on Sundays. Over time the restaurant has gone through many name changes from “The Hotel Dining Room”, “The Fiesta Room”, “Sacha’s”, “Sandpiper” to more recently “The Terrace Restaurant” in 1988.
Throughout the years the location of the restaurant has remained the same. However the room itself has had many facelifts including a total rebuild after the hotel fire of 1967. The most dramatic change was the circular extension, which was added in ‘93, following the hotel’s purchase by the Bayfield Family in 1991.
Every 5 years or so, the restaurant has undergone regular refurbishments and in the mid-90s the menu was refocused to deliver innovative contemporary cuisine. “The Terrace” has always prided itself on serving the freshest quality meat, seafood and farm-produce available. Now it is pleased to offer a more extensive grill selection, which is sure to please the most avid steak lovers.
For all of its 128 years, The Arms has always been a popular destination and over the last 15 years the Bayfield family view their role of caretakers as preserving quality standards and delivering offerings that all can enjoy for years to come.
