Blepharoplasty cosmetic surgery is performed to correct aging eyelids with the eyebrows in a normal position. With age, the loose skin of the upper eyelids sags down to rest on the eyelashes. This causes the eyelids to lack definition, and makes adding eye makeup difficult.

Three types of blepharoplasty surgery are available:

1. Upper Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery
2. Lower Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery
3. Total Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery

Eyelid Surgery - The Procedure

During blepharoplasty cosmetic surgery, loose, wrinkling skin, along with grooves and bags under the eyes, are all corrected. Thus allowing the eyes to become the central focus of the face once more.

Upper Eyelid Surgery can be performed under local anaesthetic with or without sedation. During the procedure the loose fold of excessive skin that droops over the upper eyelids is surgically removed, causing the eyes appearing younger, larger and with a more open appearance.

Lower Eyelid Surgery corrects the loss of skin elasticity and overly slack muscles that results in fatty bags under the eyes and an excess of skin, and is a day only, 2 hour procedure. Lower eyelid surgery requires a general anaesthetic.

Note: sutures and tape are removed on the 5th day post surgery.
