The International College of Management, Manly, Sydney offers students from around the world an unparalleled opportunity to study and a guarantee of paid industry training.
With graduates finding exciting careers in management all over the globe, from Canada to Dubai, The International College of Management is offering its students the keys to the kingdom! Adrienne Jerram explains what sets the Sydney institution apart.
Our Manly: What is The International College of Management, Manly, Sydney?
Adrienne Jerram: ICMS, in association with its strategic partner Macquarie University, offers degree, diploma and master level programs tailored to meet the demands of global business.
OM: Are you actively seeking students from the area, or do most students come from abroad?
A J: We’ve discovered that we get students not only from Manly but all over the peninsula and up to Mosman as well. Local students are 40% of our intake.

OM: What does the International College of Management, Manly, Sydney offer the potential local applicant that they might not find either abroad or at another domestic institution?
A J: There are a few things that distinguish our courses from anyone else’s. The first thing is that we teach managers, but we teach them from the ground up. They get hands-on, practical training right from the first year. Students learn by doing. The other thing that is fantastic about coming here is that students get 9 months of paid industry training. A student comes here and attends two terms and then goes out and works in their industry of choice, whether it be events or property or sports management and get that essential real-life experience. We’ve got a student right now doing sponsorship with the Manly Sea Eagles. For 9 months he’ll be doing marketing and promotions with them, which is fantastic. These are great jobs.
OM: What happens after their industry training?
A J: Students then have a very big applied semester. Events students will run a bridal expo. Hospitality students will run a function. In terms of why we are different, it’s really about these hands-on experiences. Our graduates get jobs as well.
OM: It seems to me this a modern approach to education for modern jobs.
A J: The most interesting thing is that integration back into industry. We are part of that industry as well. Students get more than just theoretical management training, which is important. Students will understand the business they go into. That’s where we are focused.
OM: Tell me about the appeal to foreign students.
A J: About 60% of our students come from over 60 different countries. Students who come here will make friends with people from all around the world which will help them in their portability. We have an Australian graduate working in a New York travel agency right now who had many American friends since we have many students from the ‘States. She actually did her paid industry training in America.
OM: Paid industry training happens all over the world?
A J: We have lots of Northern European students who return to their home countries for their paid industry training. We have a very strong relationship with the Four Seasons, for example. The Four Seasons in Whistler Canada encourages our students to do their paid industry training there, which must be an incredible experience.
OM: What’s college life like?
A J: Because classes are small, it’s very, very, very social. 200 odd students live on campus and there are always events and functions. We have good relationships with the bars in Manly. There are always parties organized down there. From the moment you come here you’ll have a whole new group of friends.
OM: Wow, Adrienne, it makes me want to go back to school! The ICMS campus is beautiful and the facilities are top-notch. Thanks so much for taking the time to introduce yourself and tell Our Manly readers about the wonderful opportunity to study locally at The International College of Management in Sydney.
