Google Competition Rewards Sydney Students for Marketing Excellence
The International College of Management Sydney’s Masters students were awarded the 2009 Asia Pacific
Google Online Marketing Challenge, beating stiff competition from over 57 countries and 2,186 teams, globally.
The Google Online Marketing Challenge is an annual event where student teams receive USD$200 of free online advertising with Google AdWords and work with local businesses to devise effective online marketing campaigns.
Teams outline a strategy, run a campaign, assess their results and provide the business with recommendations to further develop their online marketing. Teams submit their reports and are judged by an independent Global Academic Panel.
The Challenge is an assessable part of the postgraduate Media Management unit led by lecturer Kevin Reid. The International College of Management, Sydney team comprised of seven members from six different countries and chose a local Manly business, Cranium Hair, to fulfill their online marketing brief.
"This is another example of the practical, hands-on nature of our Master degrees. We always strive to bring the real world into the classroom and in this instance we have engaged a local business using the expertise of our lecturers and students to devise an effective, award-winning online marketing campaign,"
said Dr. John Fong, Head of Postgraduate Studies, The International College of Management, Sydney.
Team Leader, Carmen Lam said, "the Google Online Marketing Challenge was a real challenge involving real business, real customers and teamwork. Our success was based on being adaptable and agile in structuring and implementing the campaign.”
The winning team receive an all expense paid trip to China (flights, transfers, accommodation), a day-trip to the Google office in Beijing and an Apple MacBook Pro.
