SHOROC - Shore Regional Organisation of Councils – a Partnership of Manly, Mosman, Pittwater & Warringah Councils
Jean Hay, Mayor of Manly, Elected New President of SHOROC
Cr Jean Hay, Mayor of Manly was elected the new President of SHOROC at the recent Annual General Meeting.
Cr Jean Hay will succeed Cr Harvey Rose, Mayor of Pittwater who has held the position for the past year. Cr Michael Regan, Mayor of Warringah was elected as SHOROC Vice-President.
“I am honoured to follow Cr Rose as President and would like to acknowledge the strong results achieved by the four councils under Cr Rose’s leadership in 2010/11 including; $125 Million for hospitals; $3 Million towards public transport feasibility planning; and over $320,000 in savings for member councils.” Cr Jean Hay said.
“Building on the significant progress made towards transport and health infrastructure investment for the region will be a key focus for the year ahead” Cr Jean Hay said.
“This strategic focus on securing funding to build a Bus Rapid Transit system and the new hospital for the region was recently re-affirmed as priority by Councillors who attended this year’s Councillor Forum.”
SHOROC will also be working to build on the direct financial savings to member councils and their ratepayers by continuing to implement regional tenders to improve buying power and investigating delivery of shared services on a regional basis.
Cr Hay said “Whilst the cost savings to councils 2010/11 were significant, I believe shared buying power and services have the potential to save our councils much more, improving the financial sustainability of our individual councils and the delivery of services for our communities.”
“SHOROC’s role in providing value to member councils by facilitating shared services and procurement opportunities will continue to grow in 2012 through greater investigation and implementation where appropriate of shared and collaborative functions and services”, said Cr Hay.
“As we look forward to the year ahead, the role of SHOROC will be central to the strategies of member councils in meeting the challenges of delivering greater value to our communities.”
“I am confident the four councils will to continue to work collaboratively through SHOROC to build on the strong results achieved to-date as it seeks to respond to critical issues facing the region which are fundamental to resident’s daily lives”.
