What happens during a Brazilian Keratin treatment?
During a treatment the hair is first washed, with a clarifying shampoo, to open up the cuticles. Then the treatment is applied, which contains the Keratin. Then heat is applied through straightening irons. The heat seals the Keratin into the hair and so removes the frizz.
Can this treatment be done on any type of hair?
Yes, this treatment can be done on coloured, highlighted, relaxed, bleached, permed or virgin hair.
How long does Global Keratin last?
The Global Keratin Treatment lasts between two to four months. GKT is not permanent and it eventually washes out. The more the hair is washed, the quicker the keratin will be washed out. If hair is washed once a week it may last 4 months, if washed 3 or 4 times a week then it may last less. For this reason three months is the most common average for the length of a keratin treatment.
What shampoo and conditioner should be used after the Keratin Treatment?
It must be a sodium chloride free shampoo and conditioner. Sodium chloride washes out the keratin faster.
Can I get the treatment done while pregnant or nursing?
No, it is best to avoid anything like this when pregnant or nursing.
Can I go swimming in a pool or the sea?
Yes, but sea water and chlorine reduce the life span of the treatment. Sea water, which is salt water (and salt is Sodium Chloride) and chlorine can strip the keratin out of the hair more quickly than normal water. When swimming in a pool or ocean, it is recommended that you use a silicone based product so that chlorine or salt water beads off your hair. Alternatively, use conditioner or sunscreen.
Is it formaldehyde free?
