Manly Council - 'Beautiful Blooming Gardens' Competition
Manly’s top home gardeners to be honoured in new competition.
Manly Council has announced a new ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ competition, in order to showcase the best gardens in the Manly local government area and publicly acknowledge the creativity and hard work of Manly’s most devoted gardeners.
The judging of the garden competition will be held on the weekend of 31st October and 1st November 2009.
Apart from public recognition, the winners of each of six competition categories (subject to judges’ recommendations) will be presented with a $200 gift voucher, courtesy of main ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ competition sponsor, North Manly Garden Centre (Pittwater Road, North Manly).
A $100 gift voucher, courtesy of Manly Council, will be awarded for each highly commended garden (subject to judges’ recommendations.)
Whether you live in a house or a unit, whether you’re a business, school or community group, there’s a ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ competition category that’s perfect for you.
A distinctive feature of Manly’s ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ competition is that categories are open to applicants whose gardens are considered to be environmentally friendly and sustainable or feature native plantings.
Manly Council recognises the contribution to the landscape and environment of garden presentation, creating ambience in our local suburbs, and contributing to the well being of people of the Manly area.
By introducing the ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ competition, Council aims to encourage the entire community to be involved in presentation of their garden and the greening issues of our local areas.
The six ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ competition categories are:
· Best Manly residential garden - House
· Best Manly residential garden - Apartment
· Best Manly residential garden - Native
· Best Manly sustainable garden
· Best Manly community / school garden
· Best Manly business garden
Manly Council has prepared a ‘Beautiful Blooming Gardens’ information brochure giving judging criteria for each of the six entry categories (so you can choose which category best suits your garden).
Conditions of entry can be obtained from Council’s website http://www.manly.gov.au or from the Customer Service Counter at Manly Council Chambers, the North Manly Garden Centre, Manly Library, and the Manly Senior Citizens Centre.
Gardens must be accessible for judging on the weekend of 31 October / 1 November 2009
Judging will be carried out by a panel of gardening experts and community representatives. For information, telephone Manly Council on 9976 1721.
