New Northern Beaches Hospital
The NSW Coalition has allocated $125 million to start building the new Northern Beaches Hospital promised by the Labor Government 11 years ago, says Manly MP Mike Baird.
"Finally Manly's patients, doctors and nurses will get the Level 5 hospital a community of our size desperately needs," Mr Baird stated.
"People are sick of maps, announcements and no action – this commitment means the new Level 5 hospital will no longer be a mirage.
"If elected into government we will start building as soon as possible within the first term and it will be completed in the second term, regardless of who is in government.
"The Level 5 hospital will mean local patients will not have to be transferred to another hospital out of the Northern Beaches to get treatment.
"Patients in Manly will have access to the latest equipment and the top specialists they need on the Northern Beaches.
"Importantly while the new hospital is being built full services will be retained at Manly and Mona Vale hospitals – they will not be stripped bare as the current government has done.
"We have committed to retain the Manly Hospital site for community use such as aged care or mental health.
"The argument that both hospitals should be rebuilt brick by brick ignores the fact that a critical mass at a hospital means you get the most experienced doctors and the full range of treatment.
"Each dollar invested in a Level 5 hospital on a new site will deliver greater value for patients than by trying to upgrade our existing hospitals which have been badly run down over many years.
"I understand many people on the Northern Beaches are cynical after years of announcements and no action - however should we be elected, those days are over."
