Funds Raised for Children & Adults Living With Cerebral Palsy
Pittwater Council staff have conquered ‘virtual mountains’ and raised over $5000 for the Cerebral Palsy Challenge.
Over an eight week period, four teams of staff from children’s services participated in the challenge, clocking up around 10,000 steps per day and raising $5,558 for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
Each team tracked their daily step count using a pedometer and recorded their progress on a website.
Coordinator and participant Daniel Everett said teams walked, ran and cycled to notch up their daily steps.
“We set the task of raising $2000 for the challenge, but well and truly exceeded that!” said Mr Everett.
“Kids at our vacation care and after school care program also chipped in by organising some fun activities.”
“Vacation care raised over $400 through a jelly bean guessing competition and family BBQ breakfast and $1,100 was raised by our after school care children at a fun Halloween night,” added Mr Everett.
Cerebral Palsy Alliance CEO Rob White said an Australian child is born with cerebral palsy every 15 hours, making it the most common physical disability affecting children.
“We are delighted with Pittwater Council’s wonderful contribution. The donation will go towards vital services and research needed to enhance the lives of those living with cerebral palsy,” said Mr White.
