Sydney Naturopath -- Women, Hormones and Achieving Balance.
As women we often have very high expectations of ourselves and what we think our families and communities expect. And we are busy, busy, busy.
The majority of us are natural nurturers, givers and supporters, making sure those around us have what they need, are comfortable, healthy and feeling alright. Also in today’s world we also work and achieve high levels of success in business and academia. Indeed we are superwomen!
In the busyness of your life, do you keep putting aside time for yourself? Are you always meaning to do some exercise, eat better, and have a day off to focus on your self or even 10 mins to shave your legs this week. Sound familiar?
Yes we may be superwomen, with super powers and incredible multi tasking skills BUT we are often guilty of neglecting ourselves.
We must remember that what we feed ourselves both nutritionally and emotionally is what feeds our superpowers and keeps us going.
Our bodies are constantly striving for balance. For women, the delicate balance of our hormones play a complex part of our makeup. Imbalances in our hormones can be the cause behind hundreds of different symptoms experienced by women at different stages throughout their lives.
These symptoms can vary from mild to devastating. Many times I have heard women say they thought it was just something they had to put up with. Not so ladies!
Can you relate to any of these common symptoms of hormonal imbalances?
- Headaches and Migraines
- Pre menstrual tension
- General anxiety
- Insomnia or sleep disturbances
- Low libido
- Fatigue
- Fertility problems
- Mood Swings
- Irregular periods
- Weight gain, particularly on the thighs and abdomen
- Foggy thinking
- Dry skin
- Acne
- Fluid retention & bloating
- Hot flushes and night sweats
Over the next few months, I hope to take you through a journey of learning and insight of these complex hormones, which make us the women we are. But also importantly giving you an understanding of your own body and the confidence in seeking help.
Each month I will focus on a series of different issues and conditions pertaining to women’s hormones, and how as a naturopath I look to bring balance back in to my clients lives.
As a
local Sydney Naturopath, my approach to healthcare emphasis’s optimal wellness, disease prevention and education. Seeking to determine the underlying factors causing the disharmony, in order to obtain a permanent solution for you.
With hormones, you may be surprised at the varying factors affecting hormone levels. These can include nutritional status, stress and adrenal function, thyroid function, ovarian function, pituitary function, liver function, cholesterol levels, alcohol consumption, intestinal bacteria, body weight, body composition and environmental factors including xenoestrogens and heavy metals.
The most powerful female hormone is oestrogen, and has a profound effect on our health. When the delicate balance is disrupted by oestrogen excess or deficiency, many hormone problems can occur.
Find out in my next article, how you are affected by oestrogen and if you may be suffering from this very common hormonal imbalance.
