World Dog Games Held at Acer Arena in Sydney
Could your puppy be the next champion of the games?
Is your dog a supreme athlete? Can they leap from tall buildings, fly through the air and perform amazing feats of agility?
If the answer is yes then they should get in training for the next World Dog Games!
Last October I had the privilege of being invited to the inaugural World Dog Games held at the Acer Arena in Sydney where the best of the best where competing head to head to win the coveted title of Champion (and a share of the $40000 prize!).
Dogs from all over Australia (and some from overseas) competed in a range of events including;
Fly ball – two teams of dogs race over hurdles to collect a tennis ball from a dispenser the dog activates. Very fast, fun and exciting.
Agility – dog and owner navigate a complex obstacle course in the quickest time.
Frisbee Flyer – dog and owner work together to throw and catch a Frisbee within a nominated target area
Dock Dogs – Dogs run and leap (in some cases seem to fly) into a swimming pool, longest jump wins
The entire event was staged inside the arena and was run over several heats. By far the most astounding event was the dock dogs. Seeing dogs literally fly through the air head long into a swimming pool was nothing short of amazing. Whilst they did not manage to break the world record of 28 feet (yes you read that right, see the video on YouTube below) a respectable 19 feet was reached by the winner.
Outside of the event was an impressive market place with a huge variety of stalls and vendors along with a number of informative displays and talks.
Overall this was a superb event which really highlighted the wonderful relationship you can have with your dog and the amazing feats they can achieve.
So is your dog the next potential champion? Why not try out some of the activities or join a local club and find out!
