Everything You Need To Know About Waxing
What are the benefits of waxing versus not waxing (oh no!) or shaving?
By Maryanne Ullman, Aroma Ki Beauty Salon Northern Beaches
Yes, waxing looks fabulous, is sexier, and you’ll enjoy smooth, hairless skin. It feels great; there’s no spiky, blunt hair associated with shaving, just smooth skin, even as it starts to grow back. An added benefit, it exfoliates your skin, enhancing that all important smoothness.
Hair growth is inhibited or slowed by waxing. Successive waxing results in hair naturally thinning out, making waxing quicker and easier and re-growth less obvious. It saves time. You can shave every day or two or wait 3 to 6 weeks on average between waxing.
It is hygienic, clean and neat, especially with Brazilians which are just so popular now with all age groups. Some even find it enhances sensation! Twelve years ago Brazilian waxing was new in Australia and a little shocking. Now it is mainstream and addictive. Pampering yourself feels good, and waxing will improve your appearance. Don’t be afraid to spend a little time on yourself. In this fast paced, demanding world, you deserve it.
There are basically two different types of wax: hot wax and strip wax. Strip waxing employs strips of fabric over wax, which when peeled from the body removes the unwanted hair. Hot wax on the other hand is applied more thickly and removed when it cools. As a general guide, hot wax is for the more delicate areas.
The Brazilian Waxing Facts
For Brazilians hot wax is by far the better choice. It is less painful and safer to use. Hot wax is also usually the best choice for facial waxing, lips, chin and eyebrows.
Strip wax is typically used for legs and arms.
Brazilians have taken Australia’s Northern Beaches by storm. Maybe the next step is facial waxing for men. Girls, can you imagine kissing a soft smooth face? C’mon boys! It is NEVER too late to start waxing.

Tips For Best Brazilian Waxing Results
First time getting a Brazilian? It is best to do a trial first as you may look a little like a plucked chook initially. Do a trial run before that special occasion when appearance is especially important!
Use a quality mineral make-up after waxing. Mineral make-up contains natural healing, anti inflammatory ingredients such as zinc oxide to cover and calm redness without clogging your pores.
Ingrown hair is common but there are solutions. First, be pre-emptive. That means exfoliate, exfoliate! There are brilliant products that really do work. ASAP Clearskin gel or Hovan’s Medicream are sound choices. These are chemical exfoliators with ingredients such as glycolic acid.
Don’t moisturize before waxing, only after.
The Pitfalls of Waxing
Bad waxing technique or lack of expertise can cause unnecessary pain, bruising, blistering, hair breakage and at worst scarring. If you find a good therapist look after her! An experienced waxer will minimize the pain you experience.
Don’t just settle for bargain prices. Expertise is what you need to look for!
Lack of cleanliness is a especially important to detect. Watch out for “double dipping”, with Brazilians especially. A good treatment will use several wooden applicators to ensure the wax is kept clean.
So away you go to get waxed to look and feel your best!
