The Manly Roos Rugby club members had more than a hop in their step as they celebrated the end of the 2009 season. It was a very special year in terms of Manly Rugby achievements on and off the field with the completion of the new Manly Roos clubhouse and a cracker of a year on the pitch.

The Met North Zone (MNZ) Junior Rugby Competition is traditionally dominated by North Shore clubs such as Hunters Hill and Chatswood/Gordon who run numerous teams in each age group. The Manly Roos Club had less teams and typically local players, making last year’s success, with the Under 10As, Under 11As, Under 13As, Under 14As and Opens all making the A Grade Grand Finals, a special moment for the Club. The Under 11A, Under 14A and Under 15A all became Premiership winners, a unique achievement for any junior club in the Sydney Met North Zone Competition.

Murray Jonas (Coach) said "The Under 11A Final drew a large crowd and the Manly Roos tackling, teamwork and courage were exceptional"

Allan Dodd, Manly Roos Rugby President is very proud of all the Roos achievements this year. “Eight teams competing in the MNZ Finals series is a testament to the dedication of the players, coaches and managers of the Club. The timing of the on field performance is perfect, given the returfing and irrigation work is complete and the opening of the long awaited Manly Roos Rugby Club House. We are a very family centric Club, so it is wonderful to have a Club house where players, mums and dads and siblings can have fun together. After twelve years of DA applications and sixteen years of fundraising the Manly Roos are smiling from ear to ear. Mayor of Manly Jean Hay and many past Manly Roos presidents, including Rob Doyle, played a key role in securing the clubhouse.

Nick Booth, Manly Roos Rubgy Communications Manager, highlights further developments at the club “Our mini player numbers have grown to well over 100 strong, the Central West Tour is in its third year, (Under 11 and Under 13,) and the Under 15’s successfully toured South Island New Zealand. We would like to acknowledge the support of so many wonderful local Manly people, who have contributed passion, energy, time and made big sacrifices to develop the Manly Roos Rugby Club.” An official opening is being planned to say thank you to Manly Roos supporters past and present.

Junior Manly Rugby Club, The Manly Roos, celerating their success with their MNZ trophyAbout Manly Roos Junior Manly Rugby Club

The club was formed in 1962 and is one of the few surviving junior rugby clubs in the Manly area. Formerly known as the Warringah Roos, the club colours and uniform has remained largely unchanged in 37 years. In that time the club has produced 4 players who have gone on to play for the Wallabies and countless others who have played grade rugby in the NSW competition. The club is very proud to have Jean Hay Mayor of Manly and Gary Flowers, ex CEO of the Australian Rugby Union, as our current patrons. Current Wallaby coach, Robbie Deans, is also the Honorary Club Head Coach.

The Manly Roos receives no Australian, NSW or Manly Rugby Union funding. Money comes from registration fees, merchandise sales, Saturday canteens, social functions and limited private and corporate sponsorship. The Roos Committee, which is made up of hard-working parents, always welcomes new fund raising initiatives, ideas and a helping hand.

With the Manly community support the club will continue to provide a safe and harmonious local environment for you or your child to participate and enjoy one of the truly great international team sports. The club is fuelled by the energy of all those that play, coach, support and manage it, and all on a voluntary basis.
