A Magic Month of Epic Surf on the Northern Beaches
After a fairly average summer for waves, April 2009 has finally blessed us with an amazing month of consistent swell and perfect conditions.

The first week of April we were hit with a solid 8 to 10ft swell. That was it, the 1ft wind slop that we had been surfing all summer had finally come to an end and the magic month of April was just getting warmed up.

In the first three weeks of April, Sydney had consistent 4 to 6ft swells everyday with some unbelievable waves around. The Northern Beaches’ points and beach breaks where on fire. Then there it was, Anzac Day, the day of the year so far, with an 8ft east swell and NW winds. I saw it on the charts a few days earlier and it sounded too good to be true, but it wasn’t. Everywhere was pumping that day.

People were getting barrelled off their heads at Winki and The Bower. Dee Why Point was out of control, with some of the chunkiest kegs that I have ever seen. Narrabeen crew were towing into some monster 8ft stand up barrels in front of Tourmaline St. and North Av was apparently the best it’s ever been with perfect barrels all day. I think the whole East Coast was on fire.

To finish off our magic month of surf we still have 4-6ft clean perfect waves. This was probably the best 4 weeks that Sydney has seen since June/July 2007. Let’s hope it continues and we get another winter like that!
