There is a maximum of 2 entries per Author.

Entry Title: Enter The Title of your Work.

Short Description: Supply a short description of what your short story/ prose piece represents in connection to the competition theme of 'Sydney Beach Letters' --  'Shine The Surface': Sydney born, landed or visited'.

Author DetailsAuthor name & surname including a short description of who you are.

'Sydney Beaching Letters' Writing Competition Eligibility

  • The competition is open to anyone, anywhere, of any age.
  • Employees of Our Manly, Manly Council and Next Chapter Books and the Sponsors of the Writing Competition are ineligible to enter.

Theme: 'Sydney Beaching Letters: Shine the Surface: Sydney born, landed or visited'. Written compositions with strong references to Sydney the Place.
The competition seeks a short prose piece (500 words max) that references the theme.

  • While stories must reference the theme of 'Sydney Beaching Letters' they can be set anywhere in time and place.

'Sydney Beaching Letters' Writing Competition Submission Criteria

  • Pieces may be made with any type of mind.
  • Work should be primarily in the English language.
  • Each author may submit one or two works.
  • Select Finalists works, or extracts from works, may be reproduced in other contexts relative to current competition promotion or future competition promotion.
  • All entries are subject to the approval of the organisers before they will be published on Our Manly. Our Manly reserves the right to exclude and remove any entry from the competition at any time.  This is unlikely. However definitive defamation, slander or injurious representations of persons, businesses or entities will necessitate your exclusion from the competition. Allusion and other tropes will probably not.

Terms & Conditions of Entry - 'Sydney Beaching Letters' Writing Competition

By entering you agree that the following terms and conditions apply to your participation in the ‘Sydney Beaching Letters' Writing Competition held online between 12th July 2009 and 30th June 2010.

  • Entry is Free
  • Each Author/ Authorial Voice may submit one or two works.
  • Entry and voting closes at 5pm on 30th June 2010.
  • All submitted Texts/ Stories/ Pieces are subject to approval before they will be displayed on the Our Manly website. Our Manly reserves the right to exclude and remove any entry from the competition at any time.
  • The organisers and judge’s decisions in all respects will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Copyright

  • Copyright of any work submitted as an entry remains with the author or copyright owner. The competitor is solely responsible for ensuring that they are the copyright owner of the text and that submitting the text into the 'Sydney Beaching Letters'  Writing Competition does not infringe on any third parties intellectual property rights or the rights of privacy or publicity of any third party. This includes text, data or any other materials or intellectual property rights associated with any entry.
  • By submitting the work, the copyright owner gives Our Manly permission to reproduce, communicate and publish the work on www.ourmanly.com.au 
  • By entering, you grant, Our Manly (Our World Directories Pty Ltd) full rights to publish extracts from the work, or the complete textual work, for the purposes of promotion and publicity, in any publication, internet website or other communications/ media format.

Online Voting, Finals Selection Process and Judging Criteria

  • Public voting at http://www.ourmanly.com.au/ will form the first round of judging.
  • Public voting takes place only online at Our Manly.
  • Voters need register on Our Manly with a unique email address in order to vote.
  • By Registering to Vote Voters agree to receive further opt-out-at-anytime email communications from Our Manly.
  • Anyone, anywhere who is a registered Our Manly site user can vote until the closing date of 5pm June 30th, 2010.

Up to 20 finalists Textual entries will be selected and read by a Judging Panel in order to select a winner and runners up.

  • Our Manly and Next Chapter Books decisions as to the 20 finalist entries are final and no correspondence will be entered in to.

The 20 finalists and winning and runner-up texts will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The work addresses Competition Themes and is in accordance with Submission Criteria.
  • The work complies with all theme, submission, terms and conditions and copyright requirements as explained above.
  • Demonstrated skill in the 'short prose piece' textual art form.
  • The Author/ Authorial Voice/ Artist, by entering, has agreed with the above Terms and Conditions.
