Here’s a hidden gem in Sydney, Australia. I recently stayed at the Quality Hotel Sands in Narrabeen, located on the Northern Beaches 20kms north of CBD. To my surprise, this boutique hotel is modern and boasts 46 rooms situated across from the beach. My enthusiasm grew at check in when I was informed parking was free and entered a spacious room presented in a colourful funky décor, with a massive size bathroom; LCD TV offering free movie channels; work space with broadband internet access; a private balcony with double glazed doors and uninterrupted ocean views. Unbelievable!
The staff had recommended dining downstairs at the The Sands Restaurant/ Bistro - We enjoyed superb grain fed steaks & a glass of white wine for lunch. The remainder of the afternoon was spent ocean viewing from the room and lazing around watching in-house movies!
The following morning, it was off to nearby Long Reef Golf Course for 9 holes of golf, before relaxing to a leisurely lunch in the Club Café outside overlooking the ocean.
What a magnificent setting! On return, the The Sands was drawing their usual social crowd with a live band in action so another visit was had before retiring to the room to watch yachts sail by and more in-house movies. After a sleep in the next day, the morning was spent doing a beach walk from Narrabeen to Collaroy, followed by a hearty breakfast then check out.
This elegant property has everything you’d expect of a hotel; rooms are generous in size, most with private balconies offering fabulous ocean views plus staff are friendly and most helpful. The Ocean Rooms, Corporate Ocean Rooms & Suites all showcase ocean views, which are perfect for north shore corporate companies hosting interstate/overseas guests … and for domestic holiday travelers who idealise the beach, but not the crowds.
So if you can’t book those cheap airfares on travel dates you want and genuinely need a break from your old routine, then turn off the mobile/laptop and treat yourself for a weekend stay in Narrabeen. It’s all about relaxing and pampering, taking some quality time out, indulging in good food & wine and enjoying the Northern Beaches. That’s what I did!
